BREAKING: Kearny Mayor Al Santos Confirmed By Full NJ Senate For Superior Court Judgeship

Kearny is getting a new Mayor.  The Hudson County Superior Court is getting a new judge.

Senator Nicholas Sacco has confirmed to Hudson TV that the full, New Jersey Senate this afternoon voted to confirm Governor Phil Murphy’s nomination of Kearny Mayor Alberto Santos as a Hudson County Superior Court Judge.

This morning the state Senate’s Judiciary Committee interviewed Santos. The interview went extremely well, and the Senate took its vote this afternoon in Trenton.  Santos will now resign his position as Mayor, a job he has held since 2000.

Kearny Council President Carol Jean Doyle will become Acting Mayor until the Democratic County Committee can meet, select three candidates, one of whom would then be chosen by the remaining eight members of the Kearny Council to serve as Interim Mayor until this November…. when a special election in November 2023 and 2024 would be held to complete Santos’ current term.
