On a brisk, Saturday autumn morning, more than 300 volunteers assisted the Brian P. Stack Civic Association package and load 30,000 frozen turkeys into trucks for distribution around Union City, Jersey City, Weehawken and Hoboken so less fortunate families in the area can have a brighter Thanksgiving holiday.
The Association began loading the trucks at approximately 6 o’clock this morning. The effort will continue through tomorrow, with the turkeys being distributed throughout the community.
On Thanksgiving Day at 12-noon, free meals will be available at five locations for anyone who does not have a family to spend the holiday with. Those locations are Saint Anthony Church on 8th Street, the Colon Powell School, the Robert Waters School, the Washington School, and the Roosevelt School. Anyone who would like to help with meal preparations and serving of the meals is more than welcome to do so.
