Community To Honor Memory Of Hoboken Public Education Foundation Co-Founder

A special tribute and dedication  will take place in Hoboken’s Maxwell Place Park this coming Tuesday afternoon, September 24th.  Residents and community members are invited to honor the memory of Hoboken resident Shirael Vaknin Pollack at a bench dedication ceremony beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Shirael, who passed away five years ago after a two-year battle with stomach cancer, was the co-founder and President of the Hoboken Public Education Foundation.   A Nixle message sent out by the City states that Shirael was “a tireless advocate for public education. She often spent time in the park with her two daughters.  The dedication will serve as a lasting tribute to her impact on the community and the many lives she touched.”

Pollack was just 39-years old at the time of her passing.

The HPEF website states, “Shirael Pollack was a driving force in realizing our community’s ambition for the best public education possible for our children in Hoboken. She was a passionate and relentless leader who always strove to aim higher while inspiring others in the community to want the highest vision for our public schools.

To honor Shirael’s legacy, HPEF presents the Shirael Pollack HPEF #Aim Higher Award annually to recognize visionaries committed to advancing HPEF’s mission of public school excellence and exemplary leadership.”
