El congresista Sires recibe el respaldo en la candidatura para la reelección para el noveno mandato

Congressman Albio Sires has been a member of the United States House of Representatives since being elected in 2006, first representing the 13th District, and since 2013, the 8th District.  He is facing a challenge from two opponents in the July 7th Democratic Primary Election.

This week, Sires received endorsements from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the Sierra Club.  In a press release from his campaign, it was noted that “The support from two of the state’s leading progressive advocacy groups showcases the Congressman’s strong record of fighting for working families and to protect our environment.”

“Tanto la SEIU como el Sierra Club entienden que necesitamos demócratas en el Congreso que luchen por la justicia económica y ambiental, y estoy muy orgulloso de ganar su apoyo debido a mi historial en estos dos temas cruciales”, dijo el congresista Sires. “Desde luchar por un salario mínimo nacional más alto hasta patrocinar legislación para que el gobierno federal aborde el cambio climático siguiendo los pasos delineados en el Acuerdo Climático de París, estoy orgulloso de ser un líder en estas dos áreas cruciales. Agradezco a ambas organizaciones destacadas por su continuo apoyo”.

The latest endorsements come after Sires was endorsed by many of New Jersey’s largest labor unions, nine in all.  The AFL-CIO, Amalgamated Transit Union International. Laborers International Union, New Jersey Education Association. Teamsters Local 469, NJ State Council of Machinists. Operating Engineers Local 68, Hudson County Central Labor Council and the PATH Labor Coalition are supporting him for a ninth term in the House.

Sires faces Democratic primary challenges from Hector Oseguera and Will Sheehan.  Last year, when Democrats took control of the House, Sires became the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Western Hemisphere Subcommittee.

Sires is the fourth-longest serving member of the U.S. House of Representatives to represent Hudson County.  He is a former Speaker of the New Jersey Assembly, the first Hispanic to hold the position, and a former West New York Mayor.
