For the eighth time in nine years, the Union City High School girls swimming team has captured the H.C.I.A.L. championship.  The squad secured the title with a dominant performance on Saturday at the Secaucus Recreation Center against high school teams from around Hudson County.  The victory maintains the squad’s undefeated season.

Congratulations to Head Coach Peter Sinagra, Assistant Coach Rina Rosales and the entire 37-member squad on a remarkable achievement.

The swim team now heads to the N.J.S.I.A.A. state tournament beginning on Monday.  Seeded seventh, they will travel to Phillipsburg High School in western New Jersey to face the sixth seed beginning at 4 pm.

The Soaring Eagles advanced to the second round of the state tournament last year before losing.

Congratulations also go out to the Boys and Girls Bowling Teams from Union City High School for capturing their respective, Hudson County Championships.  The boys squad defeated St. Peter’s Prep, as Leonardo Mora rolled a three dames series of 640, including 12 strikes in s row and a high score of 258.  Raymond Ledesma had his highest three game series, totaling 630, with a high game of 243.

The girls squad won its third county championship in a row, defeating Kearny High School.
