The Bayonne Office of Emergency Management tweeted at 2:23 this morning, that firefighters were battling a multi-alarm blaze in a residential home on Andrew Street, between Broadway and Avenue C.
Bayonne Fire Chief issued the following statement at 11:30 this morning:
“At 2:01am, the Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched to a reported fire at 9 Andrew St. Arriving fire companies found a heavy fire condition in the rear of the building on the first floor. Firefighters stretched multiple hand-lines in to the building to extinguish the fire. They prevented the fire from spreading to the second floor and an adjacent building. The fire progressed to two alarms as firefighters conducted extensive overhaul to find hidden pockets of fire in the walls and ceiling spaces of the building.
Eleven people were displaced and are under the care of the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management and the Red Cross. There were no injures reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.”
