East Newark Police Department Holds “Chill with a Cop” Meet and Greet on Wednesday

On Wednesday, the East Newark Police Department gave out free ice cream to help beat the heat at Veterans Park as part of their “Chill with a cop” meet and greet event.
From 4:30 to 5:30, a Mister Softee ice cream truck was parked on Sherman Avenue handing out ice cream to anyone who asked while local police mingled with those present.
“I think it’s a great program, community service is always necessary, our policemen have always been a part of the community, they’ve done other things [like this] in the past so this was just in keeping with what they like to do.” said Councilwoman Rose Evaristo. “They like to reach out, as they do for Halloween, they do for Easter, with the school-they give candy to the kids, gifts at Christmas time… [this] is another outreach program for our police department.”
