Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of five men, in connection with a carjacking and armed robbery that occurred in Edgewater, NJ. The suspects were apprehended as a result of a joint investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Edgewater Police Department.

On April 13, 2023, at approximately 3:35 a.m., Edgewater Police received a report of an armed carjacking in the parking lot of a Target retail store on River Road. Five male suspects, at least one of whom was armed, approached the victim and forcibly removed him from his vehicle. The suspects assaulted the victim and stole his vehicle, chain necklace, and cell phone.

The Edgewater Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad, initiating a joint investigation. The suspects were identified as

  • Dustin Robalino of Bayonne, NJ;
  • Gilberto Roman of Carteret, NJ;
  • Wilkins Furment of Jersey City, NJ;
  • Jimmy Ruiz, currently incarcerated at Hudson County Jail; and
  • Giancarlo Rodriguez of Paterson, NJ.

On October 18, 2023, detectives executed court-authorized arrest and search warrants, leading to the arrest of four suspects. Jimmy Ruiz was served with an arrest warrant at the Hudson County Jail.

All five suspects face multiple charges, including first-degree carjacking, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a weapon. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Prosecutor Musella thanked the Hudson County Regional SWAT team, Middlesex County Regional SWAT team, Edgewater Police Department, and New Jersey FBI Violent Crimes Task Force for their assistance in the investigation.
