Fugitive Captured In South Carolina, Jersey City Man Charged In 2021 Homicide

28-year old Tybear Miles of Jersey City has been arrested in South Carolina for his part in the 2021 shooting death of 22-year old Ahmad McPherson in Jersey City.  According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the arrest was made on Thursday, January 11th.

Miles has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.  Suarez says he was arrested in Spartanburg, South Carolina, by the Spartanburg Police Department in coordination with the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.  While awaiting extradition to New Jersey, he is being detained at the Spartanburg County Detention Center as a Fugitive from Justice.

According to the Prosecutor, the incident unfolded as follows:

At approximately 10:05 pm on Saturday, June 5, 2021, the Jersey City Police Department received a report of gunshots fired in the area of Stegman Street and Martin Luther King Drive.  The responding officers located a male victim, later identified as McPherson of Jersey City, with an apparent gunshot wound(s) to the torso. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center.  He was pronounced dead at approximately 10:40 p.m.  Suarez says the Regional Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds to the torso and the manner of death to be homicide.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
