Guttenberg Police Officer Loses Battle With ALS

The Guttenberg community is in mourning this weekend, as the Guttenberg Police Department has announced the passing of Police Officer Jesus “Chuchi” Garcia following a brave and extended fight with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) on November 22nd, 2025.

In an Instagram post the Department stated, “P.O. J. Garcia was more than just a dedicated officer; he was a great coworker, a leader, a mentor, a loving husband, father, and, most importantly, an outstanding human being. He will be missed tremendously.

During this difficult time, please keep Jesus, his wife Marlene, his daughter Lauren, and the entire Garcia family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Officer Garcia proudly served the Fairview and Guttenberg communities as a dedicated police officer, commander of the Guttenberg Police Department Honor Guard, and member of the Special Response Team.

Visitation for family and friends will take place on Tuesday, November 25th between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm at the Barquin Funeral Home, located at 7101 Broadway in Guttenberg.
