HCDO Sweeps County Commission Races, Two Districts Tighter Than Expected

The Hudson County Democratic Organization swept all nine County Commission, formerly called Freeholder, seats in Tuesday’s Democratic Primary, where several Districts had opposition candidates running as Progressive Democrats.  Two of the Districts, the 5th encompassing Hoboken, and the 4th representing a portion of Jersey City, seeing the incumbents sweating it out as the night went on.

Commission Chairman Anthony Romano, in the 5th District, has just shy of 54% of the votes tallied in the unofficial results.  Progressive candidate Ron Bautista has 45.69%, 255 votes less than Romano.  In November, Republican Joseph Branco, who ran unopposed in the Primary, will take on Romano.

In District 4, incumbent Commissioner Yraida Aponte-Lipski defeated Progressive Democrat Mamta Singh, by 174 votes, 53% to 46.67%.  There was no Republican candidate in the Primary.

Both races were much closer than anticipated going into Election Day.

All of the other incumbent Commissioners, won their primaries.
