The Hudson County Schools of Technology is combining resources in order to enhance the arts programs at County Prep High School in Jersey City and High Tech High School in Secaucus.

As a vocational district focusing on career and technical education, HCST must balance traditional academic courses such as mathematics, calculus, geometry, etc. and the sciences, biology, chemistry and physics, etc., with a student’s chosen career path, whether it’s music, video production, drama, dance and the like.

The district has taken the step of giving students, in consultation with their parents, the option of continuing their chosen vocational course of study in their present high school, or deciding to switch to the other high school if their career path is highlighted there.  For example, County Prep recently completed renovations for a brand new, state of the art music center which features a professional recording studio a music and audio tech program.

High Tech High School, on the other hand, has state of the art space for students geared toward the dramatic arts and dance.

The remaining time for this school year will give students and their parents time to decide what option they to take come the beginning of the new school year in September.
