Hit-And-Run Which Critically Injured Pedestrian In Kearny Under Investigation By Collision Unit

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Kearny Police Department are investigating a hit-and-run collision that critically injured a pedestrian on Thursday morning, May 30, 2024.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, shortly after 7 a.m., the Kearny Police Department was notified that a pedestrian had been struck at the intersection of Kearny and Columbia Avenues.  Suarez says responding police officers found a male victim, who was later identified as a 76-year-old Kearny resident, with serious injuries.

Police indicated that the vehicle which hit the victim did not remain at the scene.  The victim was taken by Emergency Medical Services to University Hospital in Newark, where he remains in critical condition on Friday afternoon.

According to Prosecutor Suarez, the vehicle suspected of being involved in the collision was recovered during the preliminary investigation.  The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Kearny Department are actively investigating this incident.
