Hoboken Fire Department Honors 17 During Commendation Ceremony

The Hoboken Fire Department and Fire Chief Brian Crimmins recognized 17 members during a Commendation Ceremony on Friday, honoring five captains and 12 firefighters for their professionalism, bravery, and dedication to service in response to recent emergency incidents, personal adversity, and efforts supporting the international firefighting community.
The ceremony recognized members of HFD Group D involved in the rescue and treatment of two workers trapped during an accident at a building under construction on Observer Highway. Members of Group B were honored for their work during the rescue of an individual who fell down a cliff between Hoboken and Jersey City. Both incidents took place in February.
Additionally, Firefighter Ralph Eusebio received a Certificate of Recognition, for his ongoing efforts to organize the donation of equipment and life-saving protective gear to firefighters in the Dominican Republic, for over 15 years. Firefighter Nicola “Nico” Ratto was recognized for his bravery during a recent personal medical battle, serving as an inspiration to his fellow firefighters. Firefighter Ratto’s family accepted the certificate on his behalf, while he continues to recover.
“This ceremony reflects the highest standards of discipline, training, and professionalism in our department,” said Chief Crimmins. “The actions of the firefighters being recognized today demonstrate their commitment to serving our community no matter the conditions. I commend every single one of the honorees for carrying out their duties with honor, bravery, and integrity.”

Chief Crimmins and HFD leadership were joined by Mayor Emily Jabbour, Public Safety Director Ken Ferrante, City Council members, family members, fellow first responders, and community members to acknowledge the honorees and celebrate their actions and dedication to public safety.
“These firefighters represent the very best of Hoboken,” said Mayor Jabbour. “As the Mayor, and as a resident, I say thank you today, and every day, for the dedication, professionalism, and courage of ALL firefighters and first responders. What impresses me as much as their bravery is their commitment to not only the City – but also each other. It is inspiring.”
“These firefighters showed exceptional teamwork and commitment during fast-moving emergencies,” said Director Ferrante. “Today’s ceremony serves as an important reminder of the critical work our first responders perform every day on behalf of our community.”
The Hoboken Fire Department remains committed to training for all types of emergency situations, including those recognized during today’s ceremony.
