Hoboken Freeholder Romano Secures $1.4M+ in COVID-19 Funds

Last week the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders approved the reimbursement of more than $1.4 million to Hoboken taxpayers to cover coronavirus-related expenses in the Mile Square City.  According to a press release, the city’s Freeholder representative, Anthony Romano, played a major role in securing the funding.

The funds will be used in a variety of ways.  It will help to pay the salaries of first responders, as well as feeding city residents in need, including senior citizens.  It will also be used for preventative health-related measures.

Freeholder Romano stated, “I would like to thank the federal government, County Executive Tom DeGise and my colleagues on the Freeholder Board for helping us to deliver critical funds to our residents.  I will continue to do everything in my power to deliver relief to our residents and small businesses during this crisis. Currently, I am seeking an additional two million dollars to help our small businesses that are hurting greatly right now.”

Additionally, Freeholder Romano has continued to work to secure relief funds for Jersey City, which is also part of his District.  Hudson County received the funding from the federal government through the CARES Act, which will be distributed to each of the other municipalities in the county, except East Newark.

Jersey City’s total is more than $7.2 million.  Union City is getting almost $2.4 million, with Bayonne and Weehawken each receiving more than $1.3 million.  The remaining municipalities are each receiving less than $1 million.
