55-year old Tony Watson of Hoboken has been arrested by Hoboken Police for burglary and simple assault, according to Detective Sergeant Jonathan Mecka following an incident on Saturday night at 6:45 p.m.

According to Mecka, the incident took place on the 600 block of Willow Avenue.  Hoboken Detective Sergeant Dennis Figueroa was off-duty in the area of 6th and Willow Avenue.  At that time, Figueroa observed a female screaming for help while chasing a male down the street.  As the male approached Figueroa, he identified himself as a police officer and ordered the male to stop.

The male, later identified as Tony Watson, stopped running when ordered to do so.  That’s when additional police personnel arrived on scene and an on scene investigation took place.  Based on what was learned, Watson was arrested for Burglary (entering a building), Burglary tools (using a tool to enter a building) and Simple assault. The Simple assault charge stemmed from the female observing Watson in the building.  While trying to stop him, Watson pushed her to the ground.

After Watson was processed, he was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny, charged with burglary, burglary tools and simple assault.

He is considered innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
