Hoboken is Seeking the Public's Feedback On Open Streets Pilot Program

Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla is seeking the public’s feedback on last weekend’s, open public streets pilot program which was held on Jefferson Street.  The goal was to give residents more open space, to enjoy the outdoors while providing additional room for social distancing.

The Mayor is asking residents to complete a survey to provide City Hall with input on the concept and how their experience was during the weekend’s open street pilot.  Mayor Bhalla stated, “I’m very pleased at the end result of our open streets pilot on Jefferson Street over the weekend. Our goal was to provide additional space to safely enjoy the outdoors with more room to social distance, by restricting vehicular traffic. I thank the majority of our residents for utilizing the open street in a safe manner with most people wearing face masks. The City would like to hear your feedback – whether or not you enjoyed the open street, if it should continue during the COVID-19 pandemic and after, if you’d like to see this occur on Washington Street, and more.”

Mayor Bhalla continued by saying, “Thank you also to those who wore face masks in our parks this weekend and practiced social distancing. I’m happy to share that we had only a few social distancing complaints relating to our parks, which is a positive sign. I still suggest residents utilize our parks early in the morning or late in the day to avoid peak periods, especially as the weather gets warmer. To clarify a common question I’m receiving, members of the same household are able to kick the soccer ball, play catch, and other activities while appropriately social distancing from others; however organized sports continues to be prohibited.”
