Hoboken Detective Lieutenant Jonathan Mecka reports that early this morning a man was found dead in Church Square Park. In an email to local media, Mecka stated, “Earlier this morning, our department responded to an unresponsive homeless male in Church Square Park. Both medical and police units responded however he was unfortunately pronounced deceased on-scene.”
Hoboken Police Detectives are investigating the matter, but it does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
Mecka adds that the deceased individual was known to frequent the city, but he had been scene in other parts of the county. Homeless individuals tend to gather in the gazebo in the center of the park to rest, according to Mecka.
