Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello earlier today said that the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate that occurred at the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
According to a press release, at approximately 7:40 a.m., members of the Hudson County Correctional Facility found an unresponsive, male inmate, within his cell. Officers and onsite medical personnel immediately rendered aid to the inmate, who has been identified as 32-year old, John Finucane of Jersey City. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Saturday/
In accordance with guidelines established by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, the NJOAG was immediately notified. This matter remains under investigation.
