Born and raised in the west Hudson town of Harrison, Kim Madalena is an 8th grade language arts literacy teacher in the Washington Middle School in her hometown who was recently named Hudson County’s Teacher of the Year. She has taught for 25 years, the past fifteen in her old high school.
Madalena was definitely surprised by the honor, saying there are many, many teachers in the county who are deserving of such recognition. In addition to being a leader among her peers, Madalena serves as Harrison High School’s cheerleading coach. She says she uses the motivation from cheerleading in her classroom. And without a doubt, she says she’s looking forward to the start of the new school year on September 8, with students back in school full time and face to face instruction with social interaction once again the norm.
