39-year old Derek Booker of Broadway in Bayonne was taken into custody by Bayonne Police at 4:36 Sunday morning from an apartment in the area 41st Street and Broadway. According to Captain Eric Amato, officers responded to the area on a report of a dispute and encountered Booker irate and behaving aggressively.
As police were attempting to investigate, Booker threw an object at the officers and exited the apartment. While in the hallway, he struck an officer’s face with a closed fist. After deploying a short burst of OC spray, officers were able to subdue Booker and attempted to handcuff him, but he resisted.
Officers were ultimately able to place him into custody without further incident. He was transported to the Bayonne Medical Center to be evaluated and treated for OC exposure. Three officers also had to be treated for minor injuries sustained during the incident.
Booker has been charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
