Incident Detail: On 09/19/20, at about 7:25 AM, a male walked into headquarters to report that he located a male he believed to have stolen his property on 09/18/20. The victim provided a description of the alleged actor and indicated that he was riding a bicycle in the area of Pier A Park. The following officers were dispatched to search the area: Officer Brandon Fitzgibbons, Officer Marvin Dejesus, and Officer Joseph Spano. A male matching the victim’s description was located in Pier A by Officer Spano and Officer Dejesus. The suspect was ordered to stop for further investigation. Instead, he abruptly stopped, turned his bicycle around and started to ride away. Thereafter, Officer Spano alerted Officer Fitzgibbons that the suspect was heading toward his direction. Officer Fitzgibbons approached the suspect on foot and stood in the path of the cyclist while giving audible and visual commands to stop. The suspect picked up his pace and crashed into Officer Fitzgibbons. The impact caused both Officer Fitzgibbons and the suspect to fall to the ground. The suspect then stood up and started to run away. He (suspect) was chased by Officer Spano and Officer Dejesus. They caught up with the male suspect and placed him under arrest. The suspect was identified as Angel Sanchez 41 y/o Male from Jersey City, NJ. Sanchez was searched and found to be in possession of control dangerous substance marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Sanchez was charged on a warrant with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, Obstruction, Possession of CDS Marijuana, and Drug Paraphernalia. Sanchez was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility. The reported theft from 09/18/20 still remains under investigation.
