33-year old Sean Williams of Jersey City has been charged with murder, a first-degree crime; unlawful possession of a weapon, a fourth-degree crime; and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, a third-degree crime.

Williams was arrested without incident at approximately 3:30 p.m. on West Emmaus Avenue in Allentown, Pennsylvania.  He will be held in Pennsylvania on additional charges pending an extradition hearing to New Jersey.

Prosecutor Suarez says on May 29, 2022, at approximately 1:53 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a 9-1- 1 call reporting a fight on Bostwick Avenue.  Responding officers found an unresponsive man – later identified as 28-year old Jawon Purcell of Jersey City – with multiple apparent stab wounds in the area of 112 Bostwick Avenue.  He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 2:03 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be sharp force wounds and the manner of death to be homicide.  Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and the United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Allentown Police Department for the arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
