Jersey City Police Union Legal Victory

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced this afternoon that members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Internal Affairs Unit arrested a Jersey City Police Officer earlier today following a forgery investigation.

31-year old Justin Rivera has been charged with six counts of forgery/uttering forged documents, crimes of the fourth degree.  The police officer was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City.   He was subsequently released pending his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

According to a press release from the Prosecutor’s Office, “Between March 2022 and January 2023, Rivera submitted six records to the Jersey City Police Department requesting medical leave. The investigation found the six records were forged/altered, granting Rivera over eight weeks of additional medical leave.”

Suarez says the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Internal Affairs Unit and the Jersey City Police Department Internal Affairs Unit have been credited with the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
