Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello has announced that a juvenile has been charged in connection to a fatal shooting earlier this month in Jersey City.
The shooting occurred on Friday, December 12, 2025.
The 17-year-old male is charged as a juvenile with Aggravated Manslaughter, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. He was arrested and taken into custody at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Because juvenile matters are confidential, no additional information is being released.
According to a press release from the Prosecutor’s Office, shortly after 5:10 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of an injured male inside an apartment on Rose Avenue. Responding officers found a male juvenile – later identified as 16-year old Al-Jahmir Curry of Pennsylvania – with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead just before 5:30 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be a Gunshot Wound to the Upper Body and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.
Acting Prosecutor Mello credited the Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely accusations and the juvenile is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
