Male driving the wrong way arrested for DWI

Offenses: Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal to Submit to Chemical Testing, Reckless Driving, and Wrong Way on One Way

Officers: Detective Ryan Houghton and Detective Bret Globke

Incident Detail: On Sunday,  October 11, 2020, at about 9:19 PM, Detective Ryan Houghton and Detective Bret Globke were patrolling in a marked police vehicle when they observed a Jeep Cherokee traveling the wrong way on a one way on 3rd Street from River Street to Hudson Street. The officers made their way over to 2nd and Hudson and located the vehicle traveling southbound on Hudson Street. As soon as the vehicle crossed them at 2nd and Hudson Street, they conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of 94 Hudson Street. Officer Houghton approached the driver and based on his interaction, Detective Houghton believed the operator to be under the influence of alcohol. The operator was identified as Joseph Martucci 35 y/o Male from Staten Island. Officer Marco Grossmann responded and conducted a field sobriety test and determined that Martucci was unable to safely operate a motor vehicle. Therefore, Martucci was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. Martucci was transported to police headquarters and processed. Martucci refused to provide a breath sample and as a result was issued a summons for Refusal to Submit to Chemical Testing. Martucci was also issued summonses for Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, and Wrong Way on One Way. Martucci was released to a responsible party.

 

Defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
