Man Charged with Stealing Bike, Resisting Arrest and Drug Possession in Hoboken

Incident Detail: On Saturday, May 02, 2020, at about 9:35 PM, Detective Adam Colon and Detective John Quinones were driving northbound on Washington when Det. Quinones observed a male he believed was attempting to steal a bicycle in the area of 10th and Washington Street. Det. Quinones alerted Det. Colon of his observations and Det. Colon safely performed a U-turn. As they drove back to said location, they observed the male remove the bicycle from the bicycle rack and proceeded to walk northbound with the bicycle. Det. Quinones exited their unmarked vehicle and examined the bicycle rack. Det. Quinones found a cut bicycle lock. Det. Quinones notified Det. Colon of the cut lock and Det. Colon drove off to catch up to the suspect. Det. Colon caught up to the suspect in the area of 1025 Washington. Det. Colon then exited his unmarked car, identified himself, and ordered the suspect to stop. The suspect mounted the bicycle and fled northbound. Det. Colon and Det. Quinones pursued the suspect on foot and gave out a description of the suspect over the police radio. They chased the suspect north on Washington Street and then west on 11th Street. Once the suspect made a left onto Garden Street, the officer terminated the foot pursuit and returned to their vehicle. At about 9:43 PM, Officer Michael Straten stopped a male fitting the description in the area of 308 8th Street. This male was identified as Jose Rosado 42 y/o Male from Hoboken, NJ and Rosado was not in possession of a bicycle at the time he was stopped by Officer Straten. Det. Colon and Det. Quinones responded to said location and confirmed he was the male they attempted to stop and investigate. Rosado was placed under arrest and searched. Bolt Cutters, Drug Paraphernalia, and a small clear plastic bag believed to contain marijuana were found in his possession.

On scene investigation led to recovering the bicycle in the area of 211 11th Street. Rosado was charged with Theft, Burglar’s Tool, Criminal Mischief, Resisting Arrest by Flight, Possession of a Control Dangerous Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

All charges were placed on a summons and Rosado was released with a court date. On Sunday, May 03, 2020, at about 5:45 PM, the owner of the bicycle called police headquarters to report her bicycle missing. She was informed that her bicycle was recovered and was told how to recover the bicycle.

Defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
