According to Bayonne Police Captain Eric Amato, 44-year old Parsippany resident Sean M. Brennan was taken into custody at 2:07 pm on Tuesday. Amato says officers responded to a business located on Hook Road on a report of a male refusing to leave.
When police arrived, they found a man, later identified as Brennan, seated in an office of the business with loud music playing on his cell phone. As officers advised Brennan that he must vacate the establishment, Brennan became extremely irate, stood up, and immediately lunged at an officer’s firearm that was secured in his holster in an attempt to gain possession of the gun.
A struggle ensued and a second officer was able to take Brennan down onto a nearby couch where the struggle continued. Brennan continued his attempts to gain possession of the officer’s firearm from the holster. That officer was able to create some distance from Brennan and deployed a burst of OC spray and the two officers were ultimately able to subdue Brennan.
With the assistance of backup officers, Brennan was secured in handcuffs and taken into custody. During the incident, a call for assistance was broadcast to all available units and multiple backup units responded to assist. Brennan was transported to an area hospital to be treated, as were the two officers. During the struggle, the officers sustained injuries to their hands and arms.
Breenan has been charged with disarming a LE officer, aggravated assault (on a LEO), plus resisting arrest.
