Former Snyder, St. Anthony and Harrison HS Head Coach will take helm at storied Bruins Football program

NORTH BERGEN, NJ — The North Bergen Board of Education officially named Snyder High School’s Head Coach, Matthew Gallo, as the new Head Football Coach at North Bergen High School. Gallo, 32, previously served as Head Coach at Saint Anthony High School in Jersey City from 2015 to 2017 and Harrison High School from 2013 to 2015, when he was named the youngest football Head Coach in state history at the time at 24 years old. He will be taking the reins at the program starting immediately.

“The North Bergen Bruins are a storied football program in not only Hudson County but the entire state. I feel deeply honored to be at the helm of such a prestigious team and lead the Bruins to their known winning ways,” said Head Coach Gallo. “I would like to thank the Board of Education for placing their trust in me and I can’t wait to begin working with our student athletes, which are the fundamental piece to make this a successful project.”

Gallo was instrumental in turning around cultures at Snyder, Harrison and Saint Anthony High Schools and implementing a winning mentality in those programs. Upon Gallo taking the helm at Harrison High School, the Blue Tide got their first win in more than 3 years. Additionally, at Saint Anthony High School, Gallo built a sustainable program with limited resources, culminating in various student athletes receiving NCAA Division I scholarships.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Gallo to Bruin Country,” said Mayor Nick Sacco. “The North Bergen Football program is eager to get back to its former glory. I am very proud to support the decision made by Superintendent Solter, Athletic Director Jerry Maietta and our Board of Education in offering him this position.”
