Friday morning’s blaze broke out at approximately 5 o’clock in a three-story apartment building on 19th Street near Kerrigan Avenue. The intense flame resulted in a roof collapse, but thankfully, according to News 12 New Jersey, all members of the three families which occupy the apartments escaped, with one woman reportedly being taken to a local hospital with burns.
Several area streets have been shutdown due to the fire, including Kennedy Boulevard and Summit Avenue. According to Mayor Brian Stack, 30 residents have been displaced. The Red Cross is one the scene.
As of 8 o’clock, North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue had not determined what sparked the fire, which had grown to four alarms.
This is the second huge fire in Union City in two days and the third in North Hudson, the other having occurred in Weehawken.
