On Wednesday morning, students from the North Bergen High School Environmental Club showed what it means to give back to their community. They spent the morning cleaning a good chunk of the municipality’s northern neighborhoods of trash. With garbage bags in hand, and gloves on those hands, ten club members and their advisors, along with the MUA’s recycling coordinator, walked from the high school, north on Kennedy Boulevard to 85th Street, and then south on 5th Avenue and north on 4th Avenue, ending at the main library on Bergenline Avenue.
They removed trash from the streets and sidewalks and also cleared catch basins of leaves and trash. It’s an activity the Environmental Club has been doing for years.
After breaking for lunch, the students helped to plant two trees outside of the library. The trees were purchased and donated by NB Earth Talks.
