NEW YORK, NY / NEWARK, NJ – Thousands of concerned residents from New York City and New Jersey are set to participate in actions today, Friday, January 23, 2026, as part of a national Day of Truth and Freedom in solidarity with Minneapolis-St. Paul residents facing an expanding federal presence and escalating ICE violence in Minnesota.

In New York City, the march begins at 4:00 p.m. at Union Square Park (South End), stepping off around 4:30 p.m. The route heads west on 14th Street to 6th Avenue, then to 23rd Street, east on 23rd Street to 5th Avenue, and north on 5th Avenue to 26th Street. Short stops are planned at corporations including Amazon, Home Depot, and Palantir, accused by organizers of profiting from or enabling ICE operations.

The New York demonstration is organized by a coalition of over 70 groups, including major civil rights, faith-based, immigration advocacy, and labor organizations. Frontline healthcare workers from 1199SEIU, along with UAW Region 9A, PSC-CUNY, United Federation of Teachers (UFT), 32BJ, Teamsters, NYC-DSA, Make The Road New York, and others, are expected to join thousands of participants.

In New Jersey, a solidarity rally and march is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Military Park in Newark. Organized by groups including the Movement for Socialism North Jersey and endorsed by labor coalitions such as the New Jersey May 1 Coalition, the action calls for participation in the national Day of Truth and Freedom — described as a day without work (a general strike) in solidarity with Minnesota workers and communities. Organizers urge workers, community groups, and immigration rights advocates to rally and march, demanding ICE leave Minnesota, New Jersey, and everywhere.

These events respond to Minnesota’s statewide call for “ICE Out of Minnesota: Day of Truth and Freedom,” where tens of thousands are participating in a day of nonviolent moral action: no work (except essential services), no school, and no shopping, culminating in a major march and rally in downtown Minneapolis starting at 2:00 p.m. Central Time. The Minnesota action follows incidents including the fatal shooting of resident Renee Good by an ICE agent on January 7, 2026, and aims to end perceived indiscriminate attacks on communities.

Nationwide, the day includes solidarity actions in cities such as Boston, Los Angeles, Seattle, Phoenix, Orlando, and others, with at least 80-120 reported events. In New York and New Jersey, frontline workers like caregivers from 1199SEIU are demanding “ICE OUT!” and an end to corporate profiteering from ICE actions.Participants are calling on elected officials to:Immediately withdraw federal paramilitary forces from U.S. cities and hold officials accountable for lawlessness and violence.

End neighborhood dragnets, indiscriminate attacks on citizens or immigrants, masked arrests, and enforcement in schools or other safe spaces.

Stop racial profiling, halt retaliation for lawful speech and protest, and rescind policies such as NSPM-7 that seek to stifle dissent.

Oppose any federal funding increase that doesn’t restrain ICE abuses, and use state and local resources to protect all community members rather than support federal immigration enforcement.

Visuals from similar recent actions and today’s expected turnout include thousands marching and chanting, carrying colorful signs, large banners, and displaying messages of solidarity against ICE operations. The events underscore a growing nationwide movement, with New York and New Jersey residents joining communities across the country to demand an end to federal immigration enforcement activities terrorizing neighborhoods.
