As overnight turned to Wednesday morning, the New Jersey Governor’s race between incumbent Democrat Phil Murphy and Republican challenger, former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, remained too close to call.
Both Murphy and Ciatterelli held off on declaring victory on Tuesday night as each waited for all of the votes to be counted. According to the Associated Press, of the 2.3 million votes cast, the two were separated by only 1,200, with Ciattarelli leading.
If Murphy is victorious, he will become the first Democratic governor reelected in New Jersey since 1977.
