NJDSC to Celebrate Black History Month by Honoring Black Women Leaders

Virtual Panel Discussions, Daily Social Media Content Part of Party’s Plan to Mark Black History Month 

TRENTON, NJ — During the month of February, the New Jersey Democratic State Committee will celebrate Black History Month with a comprehensive outreach campaign highlighting the contributions of Black women leaders throughout the state and nation. The program will consist of virtual panel discussions on topics of significance to the community, as well as daily social media content spotlighting Black women leaders and the crucial role they play in the Democratic Party and in our country.

“Black women are the backbone of our Democratic Party and their vast contributions have been overlooked far too often, so we are dedicating this year’s Black History Month to changing that,” said NJDSC Chairman John Currie. “From titanic figures like Vice President Kamala Harris and Stacey Abrams who have pushed our country forward in the last year, to the outstanding women leaders here in our state like Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver and Congresswoman Bonnie Watson-Coleman who are making us proud, to the grassroots advocates working for change in their own communities every day, Black women have never deserved more to be celebrated for all they are doing for our country.”

The NJDSC Black History Month celebration kicks off with a highlight video of Vice President Kamala Harris, who last month was sworn in as the first woman and first person of color to ever hold that office.
