The Bayonne Fire Department responded to 11 Cooper Street at 3:30 this morning on a report of a structure fire.  When firefighters arrived, they found a working fire in the front of the one-family home.

According to Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver, the one alarm fire was brought under control in 29 minutes, as firefighters used two hand lines to extinguish the blaze.

No injuries were reported and the lone occupant of the home was safely evacuated by Bayonne Police.

A fire investigation is currently underway, but according to Chief Weaver, the fire does not appear to be suspicious.  The Chief stated, “The homeowner has been temporarily displaced and is under the care of Bayonne OEM and the Red Cross.”

Chief Weaver commended the firefighters for quickly containing and extinguishing the fire.
