North Bergen Announces “Eat & Shop Local” Program to Expand Space for Local Businesses and Attract Visitors to the Area

The township will close certain streets to vehicular traffic on pre-scheduled dates

NORTH BERGEN, NJ — In a continued effort by Mayor Nicholas Sacco, the Board of Commissioners, and Freeholder Anthony Vainieri to help local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, the township has introduced the new initiative “Eat & Shop Local.” The township will close certain streets to vehicular traffic on weekends in August to allow for restaurants and businesses to expand into the street to serve customers while maintaining safe social distancing, and attract pedestrian traffic to the area.

“Our businesses in North Bergen and especially our restaurants have been greatly affected by COVID-19 and it is up to us to help them in any way possible,” said Mayor Sacco. “This program will be great for residents and businesses and will allow everyone to support our restaurants and local establishments while maintaining proper social distancing. I encourage all residents of North Bergen and neighboring towns to take advantage of our world class dining options.”

All patrons should remember to wear a mask and practice social distancing when possible. The schedule of street closings is as follows:

  • August 7-9, Broadway between 72nd St. and 78th St.
  • August 14-16, Bergenline Avenue between 78th St. and 82nd St.
  • August 21-23, Bergenline Avenue between 76th St. and 78th St.
  • August 28-30, Bergenline Avenue between 70th St and 76th St
