Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver issued the following statement following Friday afternoon’s Two-Alarm house fire on Kennedy Boulveard:
“At 2:51pm today, Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched to 888 JFK Blvd on a report of fire. Arriving companies found a working fire in the attic area of a 2-1/2 story abandoned house, which is attached to a similar 2-1/2 story occupied home at 886 JFK Blvd.
Due to the attached homes, the fire progressed to a 2nd Alarm. Firefighters used three handlines to extinguish the blaze, which was brought under control at 3:54pm. One firefighter was injured and taken to a local hospital by McCabe Ambulance. A fire investigation is underway to determine the cause.

The Building Department has deemed both structures temporarily uninhabitable due to fire and water damage. Six displaced occupants of 886 JFK Blvd are under the care of the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management and the Red Cross.
I want to commend our firefighters for acting professionally and aggressively to bring this fire under control quickly.”
