Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller reports that on Friday, February 4 at 12:34 P.M., the Secaucus Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at the BP Gas Station located at 1320 Paterson Plank Road.  The gas station attendant reported that two black males each pointed a handgun at him and robbed him of cash.

The assailants then fled in a gray Honda Accord onto Paterson Plank Road heading toward Route 3 West.  Chief Miller says the license plate affixed to the gray Honda Accord was reported to be stolen out of Jersey City.

Police immediately broadcast a description of the suspects and the suspect’s vehicle to surrounding jurisdictions.  Within minutes, the Clifton Police Department observed the suspect vehicle on Route 21 and pursued the vehicle into Newark.   The car crashed and the two suspects fled on foot.

While fleeing police, Chief Miller says the pair attempted to commit another crime.  The Newark Police Department arrested 25-year old Wendell Bradley of Bayonne.  At the time of his arrest, Bradley was in possession of Ruger LCR .38 Special revolver.  Miller says the second suspect fled and remains at large.  The investigation is ongoing.   During a search of the suspect’s vehicle, proceeds from the armed robbery of the gas station attendant were recovered.

“Committing an armed robbery in the middle of the day in our busy central business district demonstrates how brazen criminals are becoming in our State” Chief Dennis Miller said.  “I sincerely hope that our criminal justice system will catch up to the amount of heinous crimes being committed throughout our State.”  “This arrest was a clear example of the collaborative efforts of law enforcement.”  “I want to personally thank the Clifton and Newark Police Departments for their assistance in making this arrest possible.”

Bradley, was charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, theft and terroristic threats.   Bradley is being held in the Essex County Jail.

These charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
