Philadelphia-based LGBTQ+ activist Kendall Stephens has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, and corruption of minors. The 37-year-old activist, who gained prominence in 2020 after speaking out against a transphobic attack, is now facing serious allegations that have sent shockwaves through the community.
According to court documents, the charges against Stephens stem from alleged incidents involving two minors, aged 14 and 9. The investigation began in September 2023 when the grandmother of one of the victims reported the alleged sexual assault to the authorities. Stephens, who was a family friend of the victims, is accused of raping the two boys and threatening them to keep quiet about the incidents.
The news of Stephens’ arrest has left many in disbelief. In 2020, she made headlines for her courage in speaking out against a transphobic attack, which led to her becoming a prominent voice in the LGBTQ+ community. However, these new allegations have put her in a very different light, and the community is now grappling with the implications of these charges.
Stephens’ preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 29, and the LGBTQ+ community and the public at large are watching closely to see how the case unfolds. The Philadelphia Police Special Victims Unit, as well as the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, are handling the investigation and have urged anyone with information about the case to come forward.
