Prosecutor Arrests 2 Men For Sexual Assault & Endangerment of 2 Underage Ohio Girls in North Bergen

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Tuesday, March 2, 2021, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit charged two men who sexually assaulted a fifteen-year-old girl and endangered a 14-year-old girl after the two girls were brought to New Jersey from Ohio.

Norman Berry, age 32, of the Bronx, was charged with Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2C(4), a crime of the second degree; Criminal Sexual Contact in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3B, a crime of the fourth-degree; two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4A(1), a crime of the third degree; and two counts of Endangering Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4A(2), a crime of the third degree.

Tyrell Piazza, age 31, of Jersey City, was charged with Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2C(4), a crime of the second degree; two counts of Endangering Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4A(2), a crime of the third degree; and one count of Endangering the

Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4A(1), a crime of the third degree. Piazza was arrested at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 3801 Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen.

The endangering charges for both defendants are related to the sex acts, as well as providing drugs and alcohol to minors.

The two girls – who met Berry in Ohio – were brought by the defendant to New Jersey on approximately February 24, 2021 staying in two motels in North Bergen. During that time, the 15-year-old victim was sexually assaulted by Berry and another male – later identified as Tyrell Piazza. Berry and Piazza also provided both girls alcohol and drugs.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit was notified of the alleged crimes by the New York Police Department Special Victims Unit after Berry traveled with the girls to New York City and the 14-year-old victim contacted a relative who contacted authorities.

Berry is being held in New York on separate, related charges.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the New York Police Department Special Victims Unit for the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
