While it turns out the weather for this Memorial Day weekend is not suitable for outdoor swimming, several people have questioned why the West New York municipal swimming pool, below Boulevard East at 60th Street, was not originally scheduled to be open for residents to enjoy this holiday weekend.

The town of West New York tweeted the following information on Saturday afternoon:

“Mayor Gabriel Rodriguez and Commissioner Victor Barrera, Director of Parks & Public Property, are improving our WNY Pool. We’re working on structural repairs, cosmetic updates, and health and safety upgrades.
The Parks Department was essential in ensuring that Mayor Gabriel Rodriguez and his administration continued work to move West New York forward while taking every precaution to ensure the health and safety of our community during the past year.
Preregistration now open to West New York Residents Only and Free of Charge! Residents must preregister for a three-hour session via etrak Recreation Software with the following link…http://bit.ly/WNYPool2021
Proof of WNY residency must be presented by attendees. Valid Photo ID with WNY address or a recent bill mailed to a WNY residence will be accepted.”
The West New York pool is scheduled to open on Saturday, June 12.
