It’s never pleasant when your taxes go up. This week the Board of Education in Bayonne announced a one percent hike in the school taxes portion of property tax bills for 2021-2022, although the Hudson County Superintendent of Schools must still review the budget the District sent out on March 16.
The current school year’s total tax levy is $69,754,376, while the proposed levy for next year beginning in September is proposed at $70,451,920. According to Superintendent John Niesz, the District is expecting an 18.1 percent increase in state aid.
The Bayonne board of Education should hear back from the County Superintendent by mid-May.
