Secaucus Fire Dept. Gets Federal CARES Act Funding

The Secaucus Fire Department is the only department in Hudson County to share in the $473,000 in federal Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG) for the purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other essential supplies for the protection of firefighters during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The announcement was made in a joint press release from New Jersey’s two, United States Senators, Bob Menendez and Cory Booker on Thursday. The funding is included in the CARES Act and comes from the Department of Homeland Security.

A total of 18 fire departments across New Jersey will be receiving money.  Secaucus will be getting $19,660.79.

“Firefighters put their lives on the line every single day protecting their communities,” stated Senator Menendez.  “No doubt the pandemic has made their jobs more challenging and has put their own health and safety at greater risk. This funding will ensure firehouses have the resources to equip first responders with the protective gear they need to ensure their safety, while they’re on the job protecting ours.”

Senator Booker added, “New Jersey’s brave first responders keep our families and our communities safe.  As our firefighters risk their own lives to protect those of others, particularly in the midst of this public health crisis, we must ensure they have the resources they need to remain out of harm’s way.”

The Winslow Township Fire District No. 1 in Sicklerville in Gloucester County received the most funding, a total of $113,029.55.
