An inmate at the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny, who committed suicide on Wednesday and had been scheduled for sentencing next week, has been identified, according to a county spokesperson.
County Spokesman Jim Kennelly says the man, who died of “self-inflicted” injuries, has been identified as 51-year old Albert Roman. Roman was to have been sentenced related to charges stemming from a November 24, 2020 incident in North Bergen where he violated a restraining order, committed criminal mischief and was ruled in contempt of court.
TAPinto reports Roman was given “immediate medical attention…and he was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he succumbed to his apparently self-inflicted injury,” County Spokesman Jim Kennelly said. “He was pronounced dead at approximately 5:03 p.m.”
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating the death, as it always does when a death is reported at the Hudson County Correctional Center, no matter what the circumstance might be.
Wednesday’s suicide was the first at the jail in three years.
