Teenager Arrested and Charged in Wednesday’s Robbery and Sexual Assault of Senior at Jersey City Business

Members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit have arrested 18-year old Elijah Lloyd of Jersey City on charges relating to the sexual assault of a 63-year old woman inside a Jersey City business on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.  The arrest was made yesterday, Friday, May 12, 2023.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Lloyd is facing numerous criminal charges.  He has been charged with kidnapping, a first-degree crime; aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree crime; robbery, a first-degree crime; terroristic threats, a third-degree crime; and theft, a third- degree crime.

Suarez recounts the events of Wednesday as follows:

At approximately 8:24 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a 9-1-1 call that a sexual assault had taken place.  The 63-year-old, female victim, told police an unknown male entered a business on West Side Avenue – south of Communipaw Avenue – where he robbed and sexually assaulted her.

Prosecutor Suarez credited several law enforcement agencies with the arrest of Lloyd: the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, the Jersey City Police Department  and multiple units of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.  Specifically, Suarez commended Jersey City Police Officers Isaac Holmes and Michael DeBari – both of the Citywide Burglary Unit – for swiftly identifying the defendant during the investigation.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office SVU and the Jersey City Police Department continue to actively investigate this case.
