Three Adults and 2 Juveniles Arrested in Bayonne Related to Shots Fired Incident on April 12th

The Bayonne Police Department announces the arrest of 5 individuals related to an incident of shots fired reported on 04/12/2020 in the area of 21st Street and Kennedy Boulevard.

The 5 individuals are identified as:

  • Elijah J. Odum – 18 year old male of West 29th Street, Bayonne, NJ
  • Josiyah L. Santana – 19 year old male of East 16th Street, Bayonne, NJ
  • Michael A, Stephens – 19 year old male of West 17th Street, Bayonne, NJ
  • Juvenile 1 – 16 year old male of Bayonne, NJ
  • Juvenile 2 – 17 year old male of Bayonne, NJ

On 04/12/2020 at 0052 hours, officers responded to the area of 21st Street and Kennedy Boulevard on reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers met with several witnesses and the two victims, a 29 year old female of Bayonne and a 28 year old male of Bayonne. After speaking with all witnesses and victims, officers confirmed that 1 shot had been fired through the victims’ bedroom window from outside and a group of 5 males had been observed fleeing the area after the shot had been fired. At the scene, officers observed a bullet hole through the victims’ bedroom window and were able to locate and collect a 9mm shell casing from the street and one spent 9mm round from in front of the victim’s bedroom dresser. Within 2 weeks, utilizing extensive investigative techniques and resources, Bayonne Police Detectives were able identify all 5 actors (listed above) and determine that Elijah Odum was the actual shooter. As a result, warrants were issued for the arrests of the 5 actors, resulting in their apprehensions as follows:

Michael Stephens was taken into custody on 04/22/2020 from the area of 21st Street and Avenue E and charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. Juveniles 1 and 2 were taken into custody on 04/23/2020 from the area of 19th Street and Avenue E and charged with aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. Josiyah Santana was taken into custody on 04/24/2020 from the area of East 16th Street and charged with aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. Elijah Odum was taken into custody on 05/18/2020 and charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a handgun.

No handgun was ever recovered.
