PALISADES PARK MAN FACING SEXUAL ASSAULT WITH MINOR, SECOND MAN FACING CRIMINAL COERCION

On Monday, August 31, 2020, the Palisades Park Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit regarding an allegation that a juvenile under the age of 16 was being coerced into engaging in sexual activity with ABELINO TISTA MEJIA. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes and Special Victims Units and the Palisades Park Police Department revealed that PEDRO CHIROY CAMAJA engaged in sexual activity with the juvenile and that MEJIA attempted to coerce the juvenile into engaging in sexual activity.

As a result of the investigation, on Thursday, September 3, 2020, PEDRO “DHANY” CHIROY CAMAJA was arrested and charged with one count of Aggravated Sexual Assault, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2A(1), a 1st degree crime; and one count of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1), a 3rd degree crime.

ABELINO “ELIAS” TISTA MEJIA was arrested and charged with one count of Criminal Coercion, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:13-5a(3), a 3rd degree crime; and one count of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1), a 3rd degree crime. They were both remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending detention hearings scheduled for Monday, September 14, 2020 at 9:00 a.m.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Palisades Park Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
