UCHS Presents Dance Showcase After Winning Awards at Teen Arts Festival

The Union City High School Dance Company earned several awards at the recent Teen Arts Festival held in Jersey City.  The routines were presented at Thursday night’s Dance Company Showcase, an evening where all of the dances were choreographed by the student dancers themselves.

The showcase featured a variety of dance styles, from contemporary, to hip hop, to jazz, to Afro-Cuban.  Each of the student dancers had a very short period of time to create their choreographed routines and have their fellow classmates learn the dances so they could be performed in the showcase.

The dancers told Hudson TV, while choreographing their routines was stressful at times, they thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to “take the lead” in creating something of their own.  It was exciting to be on the teaching side.

Union City High School Dance Company Director Emma Russo said she was proud of the students’ accomplishments and creativity.  Not only did they choreograph the routines, they designed the posters and the programs which were on display and handed out prior to the showcase.
