Union City students aged 8 to 18 are learning discipline and leadership skills during July’s Young Marines Program.
The Board of Education-sponsored program prepares the students for the high school’s Junior ROTC program, which will have approximately 165 students in the fall once school resumes. The Young Marines summer program has around 60 participants.
Union City’s Young Marines and JROTC programs are among the largest in the nation.
Among the activities and lessons the students learn during the Young Marines program are drill routines, teamwork, anti-drug education, and community service.
The program will continue through the end of July, when a graduation will take place at the Emerson Middle School gymnasium.
