It was a special afternoon in one North Hudson municipality today.

Union City officials gathered at the corner of Bergenline Avenue and 47th Street on Tuesday afternoon for a ceremony naming the stretch of 47th between Bergenline and New York Avenue El Salvador Boulevard.  Approximately 100 native El Salvadorans attended the ceremony.

The Consul General of El Salvador was in attendance.  He received a city proclamation from Commissioners Maryury Martinetti and Wendy Grullon.  Commissioner Martinetti said the city, and Mayor Brian Stack, wanted to honor the growing Salvadoran community for all of their contributions to the municipality.

Also on hand was 33rd District, Democratic Assembly candidate Julio Marenco, who told the crowd, while Union City’s Salvadoran population was not overly large, their contributions to the community in terms of business acumen certainly are noticed.
